Barangay Caticugan got its name from a native Tree called Tikug that grows mostly at the inner part of this barangay. During the Spanish era, the Spaniards called this place as TICUG village with the native tribe leader. The first lieutenant in this barangay is the late Juan Jumalon. The first ever barangay captain in this barangay is Mr. Hon. Eusebio Suan CY 1960 – 1980 he is the longest barangay Captain to lead Barangay Caticugan for almost 20 years.
